Each one of these programs is offered in a variety of time slots. The beginner programs occur once each week, at the same time of the same day each week. This ensures that you will develop with the same group of peers, and that you will always have some other beginners to fence with.

The regular classes are when most of our members come out. There are both beginner and novice level classes available. If you want to come earlier in the day, the private program is designed for you. It is more intense, like a personal trainer, and you can develop as much or as little as you like.

I’M NOT A BEGINNER ..
We at the Beaches Sabre Club are dedicated to providing education and training to fencers of all levels. We want everyone in Toronto to get a chance to try out this fun and exciting sport. We also strive to provide excellent facilities for Canada’s best athletes to come and improve themselves. We are open to all kinds of different training plans and will gladly co-operate with any athlete. Please take a look at our schedules and calendars and see if there is something that we can do for you.

NOVICE CLASSES
If you have already passed an introductory course in fencing, we classify you as a novice fencer. We provide courses at a variety of levels to match your experience in fencing. Basically, we will evaluate your fencing and design a schedule that best suits your needs and timetable. You have things to learn both from our beginner program and from our advanced class. You will have opportunities to participate in both programs and grow into a full-fledged fencer. Come out and see for yourself — visitors are always welcome.

Our novice classes are held during the regular evening time slots, as well as on Saturday. Either you will be tagging along with a more advanced class or a separate class will be held for the novice fencers in attendance. This is mostly dependant on the number of instructors and novices attending. An outline of the schedule is:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings
  • Typical Training Schedule
    • 7:00 to 7:30 PM – Warm-up – usually a spirited game of soccer
    • 7:30 to 8:00 PM – Stretching and Footwork
    • 8:00 to 8:30 PM – Group Lessons
    • 8:30 to 10:00 PM – Free Fencing & Private Lessons
  • Saturday afternoons – same schedule, we just start at noon

These classes run year round. We stop occasionally for holidays and training camps but other than that it’s “neither sleet nor hail nor ..” well, you know the rest.

ADVANCED CLASSES
If you are already a recreational or competitive fencer with at least a year of experience, we consider you to be a general or advanced level fencer. This is the “meat and potatoes” of any fencing club and we would be proud to add you to our ranks. Our advanced classes are run mostly during weekday evenings and are run by a level 3 or level 4 NCCP Fencing Master. We have some top ranked athletes for you to hone your skills against during the free fencing segment of the evening. We also offer private lessons with our Masters each night; but first you have to survive our group footwork and bladework drills. We are proud to say that we haven’t had any casualties yet and we don’t intend to start. Come out and see for yourself — visitors are always welcome.

Our advanced classes are held every weeknight and are run by a Fencing Master. There is also an advanced class held on Saturday afternoons that is run by a level 2 instructor. While we deal primarily in sabre, we can make accommodations for foil and epee fencers as well.

CHECK THIS OUT
We also have a new private program that allows beginner and novice fencers to take a lesson whenever they want.
